UPM conducts Intellectual property commercialisation training for Bangladeshi delegation

SERDANG - Putra Science Park (PSP), Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) received a visit from Bangladesh Hi-Tech Technology Park Authority (BHTPA), Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology and Canadian University of Bangladesh recently.

The visit aimed at gaining the expertise and getting innovation training on the commercialisation of intellectual property and technology transfer that are carried out in UPM.

The two-day training was held by technology transfer experts at PSP, namely the Deputy Director (Acting), Innovation Promotion and Marketing Division, Dr. Mohamad Fakri Zaky Ja'afar, Chief Executive Officer (Commercialisation) of InnoHub, Ahmad Zakir Dato' Wira Ja'afar with the assistance of InnoHub UPM Coordinator, Dr. Wan Nurhayati Wan Abd. Rahman, Deputy Director (Acting), IP Division, Dr. Zahira Mohd Ishan and two other research officers from PSP, Asrizam and Norliyana. 

Delegation representatives, Mr. A N M Safiqul Islam, Project Director (Joint Secretary) of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Canadian University also held a discussion session with UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato' Dr. Aini Ideris, to look into the potential of collaborating with UPM, in particular, with the Postgraduate Studies programmes and other expertise in UPM.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zakir and Dr. Wan Nurhayati who are also the Innovation Coordinators of the centre of responsibility (PTJ), acted on behalf of the Director of PSP in promoting other trainings that can be carried out between UPM and Bangladesh Hi-Tech Technology Park Authority as well as other universities and research institutes in Bangladesh. 


UPM welcomes visits from international and local delegations that wish to observe and acquire the expertise available at the university and to gain exposure on the management of programmes of studies, particularly the postgraduate programmes offered.

The delegation also visited UPM-MTDC, Innovation and Commercialisation Centre, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and University Tun Hussien Onn Malaysia (UTHM) under the cooperation of PSP and Innovation and Technology Managers Association (ITMA) Malaysia to get an insight on technology transfer activities and incubation programmes at the organisations.  

The innovation training was organised by Hafliza Hussin, the executive officer at the Innovation Promotion and Marketing Division, PSP, in collaboration with UPM Education and Training Sdn. Bhd.
