902 participants enliven the charity run for AMSA UPM 6th Diabetes Day

SERDANG – A total of 902 participants took part in the charity run for AMSA UPM 6th Diabetes Day which started at Dewan Besar, The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts and Cultural Centre, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently.

The run themed ‘Dare to Change! Dare to Fit!’ was organised by Medical and Health Sciences Student Association (MEHSSA) in collaboration with Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) and Malaysian Diabetes Association (PDM), as well as the UPM Student Affairs Division. It aims to raise awareness on diabetes.

The participants comprised students from secondary schools, the public, students from UPM, and students from other higher educational institutions (HEI).

 

A portion of the funds raised in the run was channelled to National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF Malaysia).

The run was divided to four categories: Open Male (7km), Open Female (7km), Group (7km), and Fun Run (5km). It was sponsored by OEL (Bernas group members), MOMA, Zoo Taiping & Night Safari Malaysia, Milo, and Nestle.

Meanwhile, a student of Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, UPM, Nishalini a/p Ramalingam, 21, said the charity run can raise awareness among the participants to change their lifestyle to be healthier such as doing exercise to stay fit.

A student of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Nurul Nabilah Redzuan, 23, who is studying Business Administration, said she found out about the charity run through her friend on Facebook and felt excited to take part in it. – UPM
