THE QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Transformation to 1 certification of quality management system, involving 28 certificates or responsibility centres started in 2010 with the appointment of Registrar of UPM as the Management Representatives. Implementation of the MS ISO 9001:2008 began from July 2010 and the effective implementation dates was on 3 January 2011. Certification scope covers all main processes of the university such as teaching and learning, research and innovation, professional services, and support services. 

 

UPM is committed to implement an effective quality management system through quality policy namely through:


"The staff of Universiti Putra Malaysia is committed towards excellence through the adoption of a culture of quality in teaching and learning, research and support services to achieve the goals of the university's strategic plan. The staff of Universiti Putra Malaysia shall perform its duties in attaining the prescribed quality objectives, as well as to ensure that these objectives are reviewed from time to time in line with Vision, Mission and Goals of UPM. "

To implement the Quality Policy, all relevant business processes have been documented in the form of procedures, guidelines or directives. These documents are controlled and maintained systematically. All QMS documents are accessible through ISO management system known as e-ISO system for staff’s review, or it can be printed out for reference purposes.


The effectiveness of the quality management system is demonstrated through the Quality Assurance Committee Meeting   formerly known as ISO Committee meetings (JKISO), the implementation of the management review process through ISO Management Review Committee (MKSP) and Internal Audit processes.  JKISO is held at least four (4) meetings a year, meanwhile MKSP and UPM's internal Audit are conducted once a year.

 
Management review processes in UPM focuses on continuous improvement activities that are reported and discussed in the MRM annually. Continuous improvement focuses on ongoing improvement opportunities or activities at UPM.



The impact of the quality management system can be seen through the reports which were discussed and reported in the MKSP. The achievement of quality standard in teaching, research and support services at the university can be obtained and it support the university initiative to improve its ranking to be within the top 200 universities in the world.
